The Princess and the pea (Modern version)
The princess and the Pea is a fairy tale but not this one! It hasn’t happened yet but could occur. This story is modern and has no medieval feeling to it at all. However it does start with ‘Once Upon A Time’. There are 2 parents who are determined to find their son a perfect bride. If their boy met a girl who he really liked and could ask her out, then the parents would ask the girl if she would come over for pizza. The parents want a sensitive girl so they follow the same method in the original story: put a frozen pea under a mattress and ask if the girl if she slept well. If the answer was yes, then the parents would waste no time showing her the door. One day the boy meets the girl of his dreams and cannot reject her. She was asked to come over too. As night fell, the son scampered into the room and….. Read the text to find out the hilarious way the son gets the girl.
I really liked this book because it was hilarious and had some romance in it. I also like it because it is based on a story that a lot of people know. This text also included short sentences which makes it easier for young children to read. One of the hilarious moments is when the boy outsmarts his parents. One of the bad things about this story is that it wasn’t descriptive enough and didn’t describe the characters much. I enjoyed the story a lot.
I recommend this text to children 6 years and older because it has short sentences and it is based on a well known story .I also think that parents would read this piece of writing to their children as a bedtime story.
