Eddie’s garden is a spectacular book written by Sarah Garland. She is also the illustrator of this book. This book is a great narrative about a boy called Eddie who is learning to grow a garden with the help of his little sister Lily and his Mum and even some great tips given from his grandad on how to keep bugs from eating plants.
The main character of this story is Eddie who is active and also willing to achieve his own garden to grow vegetable plants and fruit plants such as beans, carrots and cabbage. Lily is Eddie’s baby sister who is also helping out to have a garden that has lots of plants. In the story Eddie’s mother is only a helping hand for a short period of time. Eddie is described as an active child because in this story Eddie woke up at night just to check if any plants had slugs or bugs on them.
This is a good book because of the amazing colourful illustrations. For example the parts were the author shows the finished view of the garden with bright and colourful pictures. This book has great language features because it has short sentences that are easy for school aged children 5 and over. The author adds humour through the character Lily.
This book has great tips on how to grow any type of vegetables or fruit. Each character give tips on how to take care of the plants such as when to water them and how much to water them. This story has a little moral which is eat what you grow which means eat healthy fruits and vegetables. In the story at the end they all have a picnic and eat Eddie’s vegetable plants together.
This book is recommended for school aged children 5 and above because it has short sentences and pictures that tell a story on their own with sentences that are easy for children to read.
